Conducting polypyrrole-coated macroporous melamine sponges: a simple toy or an advanced material?

The present feature article offers a concise overview of recent research progress the authors working in design macroporous conducting materials represented by polypyrrole-coated melamine sponges. highlights innovative results from and suggests perspective for future directions field polymer composites. also overviews this particular subject area defines key challenges emerging field. feasibility diverse applications polypyrrole/melamine sponges is demonstrated includes deformation-sensitive materials, electromagnetic radiation shielding electrically heated insulation materials. Cytotoxicity addressed with respect to biomedicine, adsorption an organic dye serves as example uses environmental water-pollution treatment. A single-step deposition polypyrrole during oxidative polymerization pyrrole provides uniform coating sponge phase. conductivity was order 10−3 S cm−1, increased loading, two orders magnitude after compression. Derived have been prepared tested. They are converted pyrolysis nitrogen-containing carbon, magnetic ferrosponge obtained incorporation magnetite, or conventional globular replaced nanotubes.
